Don’t tell me I’m a bad gay for not being more upset over the teen suicides.

Don’t tell me to unfollow 50 Cent because he made a stupid joke.

Don’t tell me that I should support the gay community more and try to make me feel bad for not doing more.

Don’t try to outrage people with gay current…

I don’t agree wholeheartedly with everything in this post, but I do think it has some really good points that I want to elaborate on because I’ve been thinking about them.

I do think the suicides thing was kinda used by a lot of people to bring more glory to themselves than about the issue. And in doing so it kinda ruined it for everyone who was really genuinely upset about what happened. It also makes the people who have their hearts in the right place look bad when they try to help.

I agree it’s so annoying when you’re gay and you’re expected to do something for the gay community. If I were straight would I be required to promote straight rights? I was born into this just like everyone else, and I can totally understand how some people would just want to live their lives. But by being gay it’s like I automatically have to dedicate my time to a gay cause. I mean there are a lot of things I want to help promote and support, and some of them are gay issues, but not all of them (homeless kitties, etc).

And then if this is the case that you just want to live your own life or you discuss the problems with people only using gay issues to garner attention, you become a “gay hater” and people start using the “don’t be hating on other gays, there’s already enough hate in the gay community.” Which is so unbelievably lame and hypocritical. Listen, I hate plenty to people. Some are white, some are black, some are gay, and some are straight. I even hate some inanimate objects! It has nothing to do with anything other than I fucking hate you. I don’t discriminate.

Oh but I also just think 50 Cent is an ignorant asshole in general (and I think more than just one tweet of his has been stupid), but I don’t care if anyone follows him, really. We all make distasteful jokes at one point or another, I just think he’s a bad example because it’s as if he’s promoting the idea of being stupid and ignorant. And maybe the real issue is people looking up to him in the first place. And then we could talk about how dumb it is that people idolize celebrities in general, but that’s another thing altogether. Basically I don’t care if anyone follows 50 cent. That’s your own personal hell if you choose it.

Anyway, it’s all a very fine and dangerous line to cross.

I have posted my opinion on the issues already, but this perhaps sums a few of my points up more eloquently. I don’t agree with all the points of the original article in question, but the response mirrors what I think - albeit to an extent.
